How Power BI Reports and Datasets could improve your business’s personalised procedures

By 28th September 2022 No Comments

Microsoft Power BI is a set of apps, services, and software that allow users to connect easily to data sources and perfect the data without disrupting the original source.

Microsoft has made it effortless to insert Power BI reports into organizational apps such as Dynamics 365, Office 365, and Teams, supporting users to discover insights in their work.

Their latest update means now app creators can combine Power BI datasets and reports as Dataverse elements in Power Apps solutions, vastly enhancing the import, export, and customization procedure. Solutions are a tool of the Power Platform collection that allows users to implement applications created by employing the Power Platform services.

When a user adds a Power BI report or dataset to a solution, once deployed, it will stay connected over a variety of environments and tenants.

Insert Power BI elements into solutions

When a user is working in Power Apps, they can now include Power BI datasets and report elements from Power BI workspaces just as they would do with any other Dataverse part. Once a Power BI report is added, it will identify any dependence between the report and the appropriate dataset and then automatically insert the related dataset. After the report is put into the solution, the artifacts will be transferred and uploaded to Dataverse, automatically creating a brand-new Power BI committed workspace in which to store the artifacts. This method guarantees users’ Power BI reports and datasets can be inserted as inside forms or a system dashboard that will completely support and help the deployment over every environment and tenant.

Manage Power BI dataset parameters from within Power Apps

After a user has inserted Power BI elements into a solution, they are then able to construct and organise connectivity across environments using dataset parameters. All Power BI dataset that contains a parameter can be managed from a Power Apps solution by identifying its value with an environment domain, variable, or custom text, granting users complete flexibility in managing the data sources on deployment between their or their company’s dev, test, and production environments.

Power BI elements in the Power Apps solutions set

Once a user has exported their solution by using Power BI elements, the Power BI artifacts are saved in the format of the solution rather than in .pbix files. Included in the export zip folder will be a given package for every Power BI dataset and report found in the solution. This way when users save, version, or install a certain Power Apps solution, the same action/s will apply and affect the implanted Power BI reports and datasets of that solution.

Solution Personalisation

In addition, these latest integration capabilities allow users to fully personalise any Power BI elements to fit their precise requirements. Once a user employs a managed solution, any personalisation they have made are saved as a further, unmanaged level, allowing the user to take a managed solution from their company or supplier, and adjust it to fit their own personalised needs.

This feature is now in preview, but users can build a new environment with D365 apps enabled with just one simple click. By mid-October, it will be available for every Dataverse environment.
